Technical guidelines for satellite IoT connections
The following technical guidelines apply to emnify satellite-capable products and services offered:
- The emnify IoT SuperNetwork Satellite radio access service isn't available indoors. To establish satellite connections, the antenna of the compliant IoT device requires a sufficient line of sight to the satellite constellations of emnify's non-terrestrial networks (NTN) roaming partners, such as Skylo.
- For mobile IoT use cases and applications, the IoT device antenna needs to be in the line of sight with sufficient Global Positioning System (GPS) satellites to retrieve the global positioning information required to establish satellite radio access.
- emnify satellite eSIMs and satellite IoT data service subscriptions are only permitted with regulatory-compliant and Skylo-certified radio user equipment (modems, modules, and IoT gateway/router devices). It's a mandatory requisite for establishing NTN radio access and data transmission.
- The radio modules don't automate switching between satellite and cellular IoT connectivity. To enable automated switching, you can adapt the device firmware to use the AT commands outlined in the Murata Type 1SC test instructions.
